Like many people this year when the Oscar nominations came out I was a little disappointed. Being one of the crazy obsessed Gone Girl fans who had loved the film as much as the book I was very surprised that it was snubbed a Best Picture and Best Director. I was shocked when The Lego Movie was snubbed for Best Animation when it was one of the best animated films since Toy Story. So I wasn't majorly hyped as I was for last years show but I was completely blown away by some of the stunning dresses on the night!
Red carpet events are meant to be WOW! moments in fashion, and the Oscars is the biggest of the lot. Super-WOWs! Outfits that would be great from the premier aren't always up to scratch for the big night, so here are favourite dresses from the Oscars and why this at least made the night amazing.

Ball Gown Beauties
Rita Ora - Marchesa
For Rita Ora's Oscar debut she went a bit bold and went for THREE stunning gowns, but this was by far the most fabulous. Her first black sheer dress, raised eyebrows and was a tacky to say the least but she pulls it back with this luxurious navy number. Elegant with great contrasting gold detail that draws the eye; this navy goes great with her silvery hair and she looks amazing!
Jennifer Lopez - Elie Saab
How anyone could put J Lo one their worst dress list is beyond me. Some have said she was "too big" and "too fairy godmother"?! If there's one night to go big.... it's Oscar night and if there's one diva to pull off big... it's J Lo. The sexy V neck, the glitter detail, the tulle skirt could have looked wrong in a lurid colour but it this gorgeous neutral shade she looks completely radiant. Eye catching and stunning Jennifer.
Anna Faris - Zuhair Murad Couture
Bit of a wildcard hair as not many people have put her on their best dressed lists, but I'm so loving Anna Fairs silvery glitter dress. It may be too Cinderella for some fashionistas so perhaps failed to impress their but I think it's utterly gorgeous! Anna is so often the adorkable (or crazy) funny girl (aka Just Friends, What's your Number, House Bunny) so I was so pleased so see her looking like a sophisticated belle of the ball.

Slinky Sirens
Rosamund Pike - Givenchy
I'm not big fan of Rosamund Pike hair and make up, while she was trying for elegant and understated this feels more like tired and worn out. I would have liked more 'pow' from a leading actress nominee but that's just me. Her dress on the other hand is stunning! The leg slit is elegant and sexy without looking over the top, and the bold red against her milky skin is divine. Sophisticated and a definite show stopper!
Lupita Nyong'o - Calvin Klein
Well she's gone and done it again! Having knocking everyone dead last year in her stunning Prada blue dress, last year's Best Supporting Actress has left jaws dropping it this exquisite white and pearl detail Calvin Klein number. Utterly breath-taking she fuses the classic glamour of old Hollywood with a sexy style of new cinema.
Emma Stone - Elie Saab
This girl is destined to win a leading lady Oscar and I can't wait til she does. She is one of my favourite actresses for being both hilariously funny and stunning beautiful. This 1920s-esque dress flatters her figure and extenuates her elegant frame. The colour works exceptionally well with her pale complexion and fiery hair colour - another winner for Emma!
